MEET MONET
NEW LEADERSHIP DELIVERING RESULTS FOR OUR COMMUNITY
I am Monet .S. Wilson, known to the families of the 2nd Ward and throughout Calumet City as Mz, Monet. For 26 years, I have enjoyed being the wife of Courtland D. Wilson and a resident of the 2nd Ward. My husband and I have two sons who are born and raised in Calumet City. Our eldest, CJ, is a 20-year-old Sophomore at Morehouse College. Our youngest, Chase, is a 10-year-old entrepreneur, scientist, and athlete in the making who loves all things Calumet City.

Before being elected to the part-time position of Alderwoman, I was employed with the Illinois Department of Corrections, where I was the first African American woman elected as Vice-President of the AFSCME Union Local 1753 for the Joliet Treatment Center. Representing correctional officers and staff during my term was a great honor. Before working for IDOC, I was employed by the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice, which lends guidance, discipline, and instruction to incarcerated youth throughout Illinois.

As a trained Deputy Registrar, I educate communities on voting rights by including the reentry population into society.

For 13 years, prior to being elected, I worked as the Director of Program Development for the Tomorrows Youth Foundation, Inc (TYF). TYF is a resource throughout Calumet City and the Southland, offering youth and families academic, athletic, and community outreach programs. TYF's most extensive program is the Calumet City Chargers Youth Cheer & Football Program. I am an advocate for youth and families. I whole heartedly believe that Strong Families Build Strong Communities.

I am the daughter of Civil Rights HistoryMaker, Maureen Forte'.
I am the Great Niece of HistoryMaker the Late Civil Rights Icon,
Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth, who was a central force
alongside, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in the Civil Rights Movement and one of the speakers at the 1963 March on Washington. Advocacy and leadership is in my DNA.

As a Brand Ambassador for the Chicago Southland Convention & Visitors Bureau and a Southland Black Chamber of Commerce & Industry member, I strive to market communities within the Chicago Southland and help develop their image of economic vitality.

My commitment to the residents of the 2nd Ward will be unwavering. I will facilitate communication between our community and the City Council to address all interests and concerns.
